About N.N. Jansz
Jan Janszoon Van Haarlem was born c. 1588 in Haarlem, Holland to undocumented parents. Some claim Jan Dirckxz and Barbara Jostensed while other sources have listed Gysbert Van Haarlem and Kornelia as his parents. There are no birth records or other primary sources to support these conjectures. He first married Soutgen Caves, whom he left behind in Holland before becoming a pirate. Together, they had at least two children:
- Lysbeth Jansz b. c. 1600
- NN wife of Jacob Arrissen who accompanied Lysbeth on her visit to her father
The husband of this unknown sister of Lysbeth accompanied Lysbeth on her 1640 trip aboard the "Gelderlandt" to visit her father.

Lijsbeth Jans was one of the daughters of the notorious renegade Jan Janszoon van Haerlem and his Dutch wife Soutgen Caves. Another daughter of Jansoon's was married to Jacob Arissen, who was also on board the “Gelderlandt”. Jan Janszoon (then living near Sallee, Morocco) also appears in this journal
