The first traces of the Blarer family date back to 1228 in the city of St. Gallen, where a branch of the family takes care of the hospital of the Holy Spirit (co-founded by Ulrich Blarer) abbe.

Beginning in 1330 , the Blarers were active in the canvas trade in Constance . Several members of the family were then appointed to the city council as well as to the office of bourgmestre. In 1492 , the reformer Ambrosius Blarer, who together with his two brothers Gerwig and Thomas , marks the apogee of the Protestant branch of the family,20 January 1865with Major Philippe Blarer.
