Nadine Louise van Rooyen (1959 - 2000)

Nadine (41), was shot in the head with a shot gun outside her farmhouse, on 26th January 2000. Farm workers heard the shot and ran to help, but Nadine's six-year-old daughter had already found her lying in a pool of blood. She managed to operate the farm radio, to call for help. the farmers heard the little girl saying, "Hulle het my ma geskiet. Kom help." (They've shot my mom. Come help). Nadine passed away in hospital a short while later.

  • On 28th January, three suspects aged 23, 26 and 29 were arrested, and were due to appear in court on 29th January. SAPS spokesman Henry Budhram said the three men were arrested by the Kranskop SAPS and Pietermaritzburg public order policing unit in the Hermannsburg area. A home-made shotgun, thought to have been used in the attack, was recovered.
