Nancy had a rather unusual (by today's standards) family dynamic. Her sister Giuseppa (Jennie), who was married to Fred Abbadessa, died tragically in 1916 of TB, just two years after the birth of their daughter Augustine Abbadessa. In Italian families in the early 1900s, marriage of cousins and other relatives was not uncommon. After the death of Jennie, Augustine lived with her grandmother Josephina, Uncle Angelo, and Aunt Nunzia (Nancy). In fact in the 1920 Census Records the four of them are living in Cambridge, Middlesex, MA with ages listed of Josephina (52), Angelo (15), Nunzia (13), Augustine (5).
Ten years later, in the 1930 Census, Nancy has married her sister's widow, Fred Abbadessa (40), who is quite a bit older than she (23). They are living at 128 Thorndike, Arlington, MA with her mother, Josephina, brother Angelo, and their children Jennie Bonanno (5 yrs, 11mos), Nancy J. (8mos), and Augustine Abbadessa (15yrs). This address is the same address listed for Angelo in his Citizenship Petition.
Eventually she divorced her husband, later remarrying someone whose first or last name was Dewey. She left for California with her two daughters, where she died in Orange, CA outside of Los Angeles.
