”I have been looking for proof of Nancy Agnes Benges existence. I have not been able to find birth or marriage records. She is Cherokee indian, reason for not having a birth record. She was married to William Caldwell in 1812, that's the date I find on family trees. I did find a marriage record for william and his first wife in Montgomery, Va. I have checked Va, Ky, and Tn for marriage records and have not been able to find any for William Caldwell and a nancy agnes. This search has just been to prove her last name.”
”I found a book, I have run across several times, it finally clicked this time. The book is titled Shawnee Heritage by Don Greene and Noel Schultz. The book is a painstaking account of the native american ancestry. Our nancy agnes is in that book. I have so many questions about her life, how she felt about her heritage. Maybe it wasnt her heritage but the man she came from, did she try to hide it, what was she feeling. I guess I'll never know the real reason.
”Then on the other hand, William had a bunch of kids and no one to take care of them. Was this marriage a prearrangement to have a mother for his children, so the fact remains, William may be the one to hide the indian hertiage. Does anyone else have any comments on the life of our grandmother Agga or know any facts about her, I would love to know something about her.”
