About Jennie Riley
Notes for JANE 'JENNIE' SHIELDS:
Baker lists Nelson (sic Wilson) Riley per self and Widow Riley, 13 in family with 8 Negroes enrolled for emigration 20 Feb 1829 at Creek Path, AL. Enrolled same day as William & Sallie (Riley) Keys also of Creek Path, AL. (Baker) (My opinion that Widow Riley refers to Jennie Riley, widow of James.)
"On 24 Jan 1842 before P. M. Bulter, Cherokee Agent IT, a Jane Riley, widow of James Riley, made claim for a negro she lost in Alabama Territory prior to emigrating. In 1842 she resided at Webber's Falls, IT. Six children in family. Emigrated from her residence in Creek Path, near a place called Red Hill, about 15 miles from Blountville in the year 1830. She emigrated with her children along, I am assuming James passed away prior. Do not know emigrating Agent, but Government furnished them with rations." (Indians and Intruders, page 86)
James G. Thompson was her witness on above date. He stated that he resided about 3 miles from Mrs. Riley in the old Nation. Isaac Keys testified he was well acquainted with James G. Thompson. (Indians and Intruders, page
