G.W. Wood great great grandson of Nancy Carter Wood
"Nancy Carter Wood is our only documented "FFV" or "First Family of
Virginia"-a loosely defined term describing any family of prominence in
VA that arrived during the 1600's. Nancy Carter's great great
grandfather, Captain Thomas Carter, arrived in VA from Bedfordshire,
England sometime between 1632 and 1670. We can trace her ancestry ba
additional three generations to William Carter, born in 1510 during the
early reign of Henry VIII. Nancy married at age 22, moved her family we
by wagon train, bore eight children, lived through border conflicts and
Civil War in Bleeding Kansas and died there at eighty years old."

This appears to be another Nancy Carter! Nancy Carter listed in Josiah Carter's family bible, as transcribed by Dr. Randolph Malone in his definitive book-1989, notes that his daughter Nancy was born 22 Feb 1790-likely in Hancock Co. GA, where Josiah Carter lived on the north fork of the Ogeechee river. All early records of the family are in Wilkes, Greene, Hancock, and Warren counties! The bible also noted that Nancy Carter married to Charles Dunham on 10 June 1819 in Warren Co. Charles Dunham's birth was noted as: 27 Oct 1777. A a likely son, James Dunham was born in 1820.
