Nathan Bassett was the son of William Bassett (b.1702) and Anna Mayhew (b.1710).

Nathan Bassett, served in the Revolutionary War. He made application for a Revolutionary War pension (file number S28634) and his declaration was dated 3 Nov 1836 when he was 85 years of age. Nathan's declaration states: "He was born on the 15th day of August 1751 and has a record of his age in his possession; and was a Native of Martha's Vineyard in the County of Dukes in the town of Chilmark and State of Massachusetts. He left Martha's Vineyard about 42 years [1794] last April and came to Florida in Montgomery County and State of New York, where he has since resided."
