He married MARGARET DART31 Abt. 1784 in New London, CT. She was born Abt. 1760, and died Abt. 1840 in NY32. Notes for JR NATHAN DANIELS: -Listed in 1790 New London Co., CT Census as Nathan Daniels 2nd. : 2- Free white males of 16 years and upward and 6 - Free white females. -Listed in 1800 New London Co., CT as Nathan Daniels Jr. Males:1- under 10; 1- 10-16; 3- 16-26;1- 26-45 Females 2- under 10; 1- 10-16; 1- 16-45. From Nathan Daniels Pension File which he applied for Oct. 2, 1832, issued Oct. 23, 1833 ( age 72) at $96. per Annum from Albany or Utica Agency. Resided at date of Application; Virgil, Cortland Co., NY Resided at time of Service: New London, CT Held the rank of Private: Service : 12 Mo. Matrop; 4 Mo. Inf. AUG 1777: He was drafted out of Capt. Daniel Stetson's Co. of New London, CT. and was mustered in the Town of Groton, CT under Capt. Johnson (Nathan not sure if correct name). He went to Providence, RI where a Redoubt was being built and helped to guard the shore. He was dismissed along with the Company after 3 mo. of service. JUNE 1778: He was again drafted out of Capt. Cawkin's Co. in New London, mustered into the Company of Capt. William Sharpleigh and stationed at New London and kept guard against the fleet that lay before New London. He was drafted for two months, but he served one-half a month when his father took his place. MAY 1779: He entered the service of U.S. as a Volunteer Regular Soldier on or about May 3, 1779. He served under Capt. William Latham in the regiment of artillery. Commanded by Col. Ledyard for one year and served the same. Enlisted in the town of New London, CT and stationed at Fort Griswold in Groton, CT. He served in the Fort with 90 soldiers during what was termed " The Hard Winter". He discharged by Col. Ledyard in the spring of 1780. The following data appears on plain paper with recap of service: Born 1760 New London, CT Died in 1845 ? Father: Nathan Daniels New London Conn during war Children: Leonard; Alfred; Nathan; James; Sophia wife Parley Van Tassel; David. living in 1851. 14 01 Jul 2006 Information from Final Pay Voucher: Last payment made to Nathan Daniels was dated Sept. 11, 1844 for $31.66 this was for 6 months. (so between that payment and March 1845 he must have died.) 1) paper states: "State of NY Chenango Co. Before me a Justice of Peace appeared Nathan Daniels made oath that he is person named in Certificate in his possession - War Dept Rev Claim- on 7 June 1832 Nathan Daniels of State NY who was a Matross in Rev Army is entitled to receive $63.33 per annum commercing on 4th of March 1831 & payable semi annually on 4th March & 4th Sept. every year given at War Office. on this day 23 day Oct, 1833. he now resides in Norwick & has for 4 years past & previous in Preston signed Nathan Daniels (poor shakey writing) sworn 4th day Sept 1844 before me W or N Hubbard Justice of Peace." 2) paper " Known all men that I Nathan Daniels of Norwick do hereby constitue & appoint James Kershaw my true & lawful attorney to receive from the agent of US for paying Pensions in City of Albany my pension 4 March 1844 to 4th of Sept 1844, signed 4th Sept 1844 Nathan Daniels, W or N Hubbard." 3) paper signed by Hubbard as Justice of Peace, " Be it known 4th Sept 1844 appeared Nathan Daniels above named & acknownledged the Power of Attorney to be his act & deed." 4) Paper states; " Mechanics & Farmers Bank, Albany Sept 11, 1844. Received of the president of said Bank agent for paying pensions $31.66 being 6 mo pension due Nathan Daniels - from 4th March 1844 to Sept 4, 1844 for which I have signed receipts James Kershaw." MARRIAGE: Assumed based on age of oldest child and in New London, CT based on Nathan's Pension Application. CHILDREN: All of children listed in Pension file as living in 1851 were also listed in Grandma Newton book, except the book list a "Phebe" (NOTE: Perhaps Grandma Newton errored in listing "Phebe"- confused since both David and Alfred married women named "Phebe") and Margaret Dart (see note under Margaret Dart Daniels) In 1840 Nathan was living with his son Leonard in Norwich, Chenango Co., NY.
