Nathaniel Deo b. ca 1797 a native of NY State, settled in Upper Canada about 1809 with his family. In Dec. 1837. Deo, who lived in Dorchester township, helped organize meetings of local residents to discuss what actions, if any, to take in response to the rebellion. He went into hiding after the failure of the risings but was captured and jailed March 1838. After petitioning, he was freed on bail in September. " A long lengthy letter was written petitioning for lenity for Nathaniel and a few others on June 5 1838 to Sir George Arthur Lt. Governor of the Province of Upper Canada
