Biography

Nathaniel Dickinson was the second son and third child of Nathaniel and Hannah Beardsley Dickinson. He was born May 7, 1663, probably in Hatfield, Massachusetts, and resided in that town, where he died before 1757. He was among the severe sufferers by the Indians in the Connecticut Valley having his horse shot out from under him.

He married 1st Hepzibah, daughter of Samuel Gibbs, of Windham, Connecticut. She died at the age of fifty-eight years, in 1713. He married 2nd Lydia, daughter of Samuel Marshall, and widow of Samuel Wright, of Northampton, Massachusetts. His children, all born of his first wife, were: Nathaniel, killed by Indians in 1698, Samuel, captured by Indians and later rescued, Ebenezer, Daniel, Hepzibah, Nathaniel, Benjamin. He made his will in 1743; it was approved in 1757.

  • Actual burial place unknown, most probably Hill Cemetery, Hatfield with rest of family
  • There is no definitive record or marker. He cannot be buried here as this cemetery, established later in 1844.

Son of Nathaniel & Anna Dickinson I. Married Hannah Beardsley 25 Dec 1662 in Stratford CT. Their child:
Nathaniel Dickinson II (born 1643) married Hannah Beardsley on December 25, 1662, at the age of 19. She died at the age of 37 on February 1679. Nathaniel then married Elizabeth Hawks, widow of Joseph Gillett (killed during the Bloody Brook massacre on September 18, 1675), on December 16, 1680 in Hatsfield. Unfortunately, Elizabeth died a year later. Nathaniel married (3rd) 26 Sep 1684, Elizabeth Burt Wright widow of Samuel Wright in 1684. Nathaniel Dickinson died on October 11, 1710, in Hatsfield.
