Nathaniel Gary (Gery) was born in Little Hadham, Hertfordshire, England about 1631 to parents Arthur Gary and Frances Warman of Bishop's Stortford who were of Roxbury by 1638/9. [1][2]

He immigrated to America with his family in 1639.

His father Arthur Gary wrote his will on 18 Nov 1664 and left his estate to be equally divided among his three sons, William, Samuel and Nathaniel, after his wife Frances' decease. [3]

He was admonished by the church at Roxbury on 13d: 12m: 1652. [February 13, 1653][4]

He married Anne Douglas at Roxbury, Massachusetts on 14 Oct 1658. [5][6] Anne Douglas born c1637, likely in England, was the daughter of Deacon William and Anne (Mattle) Douglas, and came with her parents to Roxbury, Massachusetts Bay Colony about 1639/40. [1]

He was a successful planter at Roxbury. [1]

Nathaniel died of smallpox on28 Jan 1678. [5] [1] He died intestate and on 29 Apr 1679, 'relict' widow Anne was granted power of administration of his estate and was to provide an inventory of his goods and bond for her administration. [1]

On 9 Apr 1684, administration was granted to William Gary and John Chandler, as widow Anne Gary had remarried. A new inventory was taken and the estate was valued at L 103. [1]

Widow Anne Gary married second Thomas Bishop of Roxbury on 7 Jun 1683. [5] [1] [6]
