notes

William Abbott, George and Hannah’s sixth child, was born November 18, 1657.  William is described as being “a Puritan in faith and Christian conduct.”  He married Elizabeth Geary, daughter of Nathaniel Geary, on June 19, 1682.  Nathaniel was a “well-to-do” Roxbury pioneer who had no boys, so he sent to Andover and adopted the son of his sister Elizabeth, young William Abbot and made him his heir.

William and Elizabeth had 12 children, ten sons and two daughters.  They built their home on the “uplands” of Andover (located where Philips-Andover Academy is now).  William’s occupation was a weaver and he also owned a farm, “located where Andover Village is now.”  William died October 12, 1713, Elizabeth passed away November 26, 1712.
