He is listed as a Patriot in the DAR index, #A134713. He never collected his pension due to the fact of his last name being misspelled, later proven by son, Edward. He did not leave a will, but had distributed all his property among his children prior to his death proven by Patrick County, VA deeds.

He married Elizabeth Wade in 1773 in Bedford County, VA.
