Nathaniel Knight, (III)

First schoolteacher in the town of Groton VT (10 yrs.); Held the office of Justice of the Peace and Selectman for many yrs.; described as "a prominent citizen, gentlemanly and courteous and exact in all his business dealings.Moved to Ryegate, where he lived until his death at 82.

Nathaniel Knight b. 1761 Plaintow, N. H., - 5/18/1843 married Hannah Smith (b. Candia, 1769.)in 1793 Wentworth, N. H. She died 5 days before her husband They came to Groton and bought of Gen. Whitelaw, Sept. 1, 1794, one-half of Lot No. 49. In 1804, they moved to Ryegate, to land bought of Alexander Dunn; in old age he lived on the farm now owned by Walter Farrow, owning one-half of it; member. of Conge. church Peacham till the Anti-Matonic troubles, when he withdrew and became a member of what is now the United Pres. church in Ryegate. He died. May 18,1843; his wife five days earlier; bur. in Walter Harvey cemetery. His bro. Samuel, lived in Warren, N. H.

Betsey, 5/18/1794 Wentworth. N. H. Married Amos W. Abbott. Nathaniel. 10/14/1795 Groton, Married Sarah Laughlin Lucy, 5/12/1797. Groton, married Andrew Laughlin (the Brother of Sarah who is married to Nathaniel Samuel, 1/21/1799 Groton.
