About Nathaniell Cole
Nathaniel Cole was recorded as a communicant of the 2nd Hartford Church on March 30,1684. He was administrator of his father, John Cole's will in March 1686. His marriage is listed in the "New England Marriages Prior To 1700", page 170. Married to Mary Benton in 1684 ("The History of Wethersfield").
"The Medical Journal of John Winthrop", 1660, Hartford, lists "Nathaniel, son of (Cole) the carpenter".
His marriage to Lidiah Davis is listed in the Hartford vital records (Barbour Collection). He owned a considerable amount of property near the center of Hartford (including the land that later became the "Retreat for the Insane" (now called the "Institute for Living", a private psychiatric hospital). He prepared a long and detailed will in 1708, and made financial provisions for his nephew, the mentally retarded and physically handicapped Ebenezer Benton, the son of his sister Anne (Cole) Benton (the accuser of witches in Hartford). Nathaniel died in Hartford, CT, Hartford vital records, (Barbour Collection).
He was a wealthy man. The inventory of his estate amounted to over 572 pounds.
His death, and his wife Lydia's death are noted in the 1st Church of Hartford records.
