    Also called Nigel d' Aubigny.3 Nele d' Aubigny was younger son of Roger and Amice,whose parentage is unknown.4 He was born circa 1064 at St. Martin d'Aubigny near Coutances, Normandy, France.2,3 He was the son of Roger de Albini and Avitia de Montbrai.2 The Domesday Survey in 1086. Nele d' Aubigny was held large holdings in Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Leicestershire, and Warwickshire in 1086.3 He was the bow-bearer to King William Rufus between 1087 and 1100.5 He was given permission to marry Maud d' Auila, whose husband, Robert de Mowbray was alive, and in prison for rebellion against William Rufus, by Pope Paschall between 13 August 1099 and 18 November 1105.5 He was girt with the sword of knighthood by King Henry I after September 1100.5 Battle of succession, Henry I defeating Robert Curthose, and Normandy reunited with England. On 28 September 1106 at the Battle of Tinchebrai, Normandy, France.6 He took a conspicuous part in the battle on behalf of Henry against his brother Robert Curthose, in which he slew the horse of Curthose and the brought the prince himself before the king on 28 September 1106 at the Battle of Tinchebrai, Normandy, France.5 He again came to great service of King Henry, as the King was besieging a castle in Normandy, he first entered the breech, sword in hand, and delivered up the fortress to the king, after 28 September 1106.5 He received, for his services to the king in Normandy, a royal grant of the forfeited lands of his maternal uncle, Robert de Mowbray, Earl of Northumberland, both in Normandy and England; as also his castles, with the castle in Bayeaux and its appurtences; so that he had no less than 120 knights' fees in Normandy, and as many in England; thus becoming one of the most powerful persons of the period after 28 September 1106.5 He married Maud de Laigle, daughter of Richer de Laigle and Judith d' Avranches, after 1107; His 1st. Her 2nd. (Permitted by Pope Paschal II.).5,7,8 Nele d' Aubigny and Maud de Laigle were divorced before 1118; On grounds of consanguinity. (She'd been married first to his mother's brother. ?) s.p.5,7 Nele d' Aubigny married, by the special advice of King Henry I, Gundred de Gorney in 1118.5 He married Gundreda de Gournay, daughter of Gerard de Gournai and Edith de Warenne, in June 1118; His 2nd, at the King's instance.5,9,10 Nele d' Aubigny died circa 21 November 1129. He died at an advanced age.5,11,12 Nele d' Aubigny was buried in the Abbey of Bec, Normandy. He was buried with his ancestor.5

Nigel d'Aubigny[1] (d. 1129) was a Norman nobleman, and supporter of Henry I of England. He is described as "one of the most favoured of Henry’s 'new men'"[2], and after the Battle of Tinchebrai in 1106 was largely rewarded by Henry with the lands of Robert de Stuteville, who had followed Robert Curthose.[3]

His father was Roger d’Aubigny and his mother Alicia, sister of Geoffrey de Montbray; William d'Aubigny was his brother.

He married Matilda of Laigle, daughter of Richer of Laigle, who had previously been married to the disgraced Robert de Mowbray and then divorced him.

Nigel divorced Matilda; there were no children. He later married Gundred de Gournay[4], daughter of Gerard de Gournay and Edith de Warenne[5] They had a son, Roger. By a change of name, his son was called Roger de Mowbray.
