Ex-Heber Matron Dies In Salt Lake
HEBER - Mrs. Nellie Clyde DeGraff, 72, well-known and prominent Heber matron for many years, died in Salt Lake City of a heart ailment Monday.
She was born Nov. 19, 1885, in Heber to James W. and Mary A. Campbell Clyde. She married Charles DeGraff June 10, 1908, in the Salt Lake L D S Temple. Mrs. DeGraff She was appointed a member of the Wasatch LDS Stake Sunday School Board in 1908; Stake Primary president, 1914-1929; and Stake Relief Society president, 1929-1947. She was a graduate of Brigham Young University and received her teaching diploma. She taught in the BY Elementary school. Active in music, she taught music for nearly 50 years in Heber and helped with the organization of numerous singing groups.
She was also interested in gardening and was one of the organizers of the Heber Flower Show. Another of her many activities was serving on the Wasatch County Library Board and aiding the establishment of the Carnegie Library in Heber.
Surviving are her husband, Charles; five children: Dale C. DeGraff of Los Angeles, Calif.; J. W. DeGraff of Portland, Ore.; Charles Clyde DeGraff of Seattle, Wash.; Mrs. Lee (Helen) Ossmen of Las Vegas, Nev.; Mrs. Jess R. (Elaine) Walker of Pleasant Grove; 11 grandchildren, and one brother and three sisters: Don Clyde of Heber, Mrs. George (Hazel) Watkins of Provo, Mrs. J. L. (Bess) Craig of Denver, Colo., and Nina Clyde of Ogden.
Funeral services will be held Friday noon, 260 E. South Temple, in Salt Lake City, where friends may call Thursday from 6 to 8 p. m., and Friday prior to services. Burial will be in the Salt Lake City Cemetery.
