Obituary –Nellie S. Larabee (Mabel Larabee’s sister) Died November 15, 1977 Nellie S. Larabee, 86 , of 214 Foote Road, Glastonbury, formerly of Melrose, N. Y., died Tuesday in Hartford Hospital. Born in Schaghticoke .N.Y. she lived in Glastonbury two years. She was a school teacher in Troy, N.Y., retiring in 1930. She leaves two nieces, Janet Henley of Glastonbury and Libbie Whatley of East Haddam. The funeral: Friday, Mason Funeral Home, Troy. Burial: Elmwood Cemetery, Schaghticoke. Calling hours: Thursday, 7 to 9 p.m., Mason Funeral Home. Local arrangements: Pratt Funeral Home, 71 Farmington Ave.
( In 1975, We had to take Aunt Nellie from her home inMelrose, N.Y. and bring her to Glastonbury,CT. as she was unable to care for herself due to confusion. It was necessary for us to put her in a convalesent home ,as we (Jan and Libbie) were unable to care for her as Jan was ill at the time. Two years later she died of a ruptured appendix at the age of 87. She was a diligent, hard worker and after her father’s death, managed the farm homestead until about the year 1974 . A graduate of Skidmore College, she previously was superintendent of several Art Schools before her father’s death. )
