Nellie Magdalene Patrick

Nellie M. Patrick died a peaceful death at the age of 96 at the Elms Haven Care Center in Thornton, CO.

She is preceded in death by her parents, John and Mary (Baune) Flaherty, eight brothers and sisters: John, Hank, Tom, Pat, Katheryn, Mary Ann, Ellen and Emma, and her husband, Leon Clark Patrick. She is survived by her daughter, Pamela Patrick Barringer, (widow of Norman), and extended family members.

She was born in Lawrence, NE on April 9, 1913 but the Flaherty family soon moved to a farm in Indianola, NE. She graduated from high school in the early 1930's and moved to Atwood, KS where her husband worked independently for Mobil Oil (sign of the Flying Red Horse in those days).

Later, Nellie and her husband Pat purchased and managed the Atwood Hotel until shortly after Pat's death in 1959.

She then managed Gen's clothing store and later worked for Dr. Edmund Warta before moving to Denver in the 1960's where she continued to work in women's wear at Cates First Avenue in the Cherry Creek Shopping Center area. She was a strong woman who valued her independence until health issues became a factor.

Interment will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Atwood, KS at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
