Nellie Stevens

A weathered gravestone stands alone in Lot 333, Space A, of Lakeview Cemetery, Cheyenne, Laramie Country, Wyoming, bearing this inscription: Stevens Child August 2, 1877. Cheyenne Daily Leader Newspaper, Wyoming Territory 2 August 1877. DIed. Stevens. - In this city, August 1st, at 10:00 pm, Nellie, daughter of Leverett C. and Sarah Stevens, aged 4 years, 9 months, and 12 days. She died of the measles. The funeral will occur tomorrow at 10 o'clock. All friends are invited to attend. (Services were held in the Episcopal Church. The editor of the Leader printed a separate, short note of condolence on behalf of the "many friends" of Nellie's parents.) Posted by James 2/13/2013
