About Neola Joyce [Bob] Maddison
GEDCOM Note
Bob Maddison managed Alden's Music store in Hibbing, Minn.John Alden and Nellie had no children. John was Harry's godfather. He had a cabin in Moose Bay on Namakan Lake and allegedly had the first inboard water craft on Kabetogama. He drowned going through the ice while deer hunting ther in 1944 or 1945. Alden Island on the way to Kettle Falls is named after him. Alden's was then sold to Erle Brahman and the music store was run by "Bob" as Brahmans lived in Superior, Wisc. where they had another store. Was a charter member of The Hibbing Chapter of The Business, Professional Women's Club. Served as the Minnesota State President in 1957-58. Was asked to run for National President but turned it down as she did not want to be away from George that long. Would have had to move to Washington, DC. Had started to go to the Crane Lake area in the late twenties Would go to Alden's cabin on Moose Bay . She ran around with Helen (?) who married Eric Nelson, brother of John Nelson who built Nelson's resort in 1931. John had worked for the Great Northern RR in Kelly Lake. Eric had a shack on Snake Creek on Crane Lake and she and Helen would go there and spend time. John Handberg had Handberg's resort and that is where they went through. She couldn't swim, and one day fell off the dock and almost drowned. The Canadian Ranger was there and saved her life by pulling her out of the water.
In 1932 she bought 40 acres of bare land on the SE shore of Namakan Lake, which would later be christened "Whiskey Point".
She and George built the iconic red cabin on the western side of the point, while her son Harry and friends built the cabin on the east side. The land is still owned and well-loved by their descendants, the Maddisons and the Zikmunds.
After George Died, she played piano and then organ at Nelson's after they installed a bar. Became a close friend of Gardner Ted Armstrong, the preacher. He had a band when he owned the camp on Pelican Lake and would play at Nelson's every once in a while. Bob would play along with the band at various times and visited him at his home in California one year. On the plane out to Cal, she sat next to Kareem Abdul Jabbar, who had been at the camp putting on a basketball seminar for the kids there. [
