Niccolò Sartori

Niccolò, born in Chieri in 1531, after his family's transfer to Geneva, studied in Lausanne and devoted himself to mercantile activity. Despite the intervention of the City Council of Bern, he died at the stake in Aosta on May 4, 1557 because of the intense evangelization activity undertaken in the city. His martyrdom was echoed in the Duchy and beyond the Alps, also thanks to the propaganda of Protestant historiography.

Niccolò, nato a Chieri nel 1531, dopo il trasferimento della famiglia a Ginevra studiò a Losanna e si dedicò all’attività mercantile. Malgrado l’intervento del Consiglio cittadino di Berna, perì sul rogo ad Aosta il 4 maggio 1557 a causa dell’intensa attività di evangelizzazione intrapresa nella città. Il suo martirio ebbe vasta eco nel ducato e Oltralpe, anche grazie alla propaganda della storiografia protestante.
