About Nicholas Hill
Nicholas Hill was born in Guildford, Surrey, 1544. He was buried in London at St. Michael Paternoster Royal, 11 April 1610, as Nicholas Hill, Draper of London. He married first at St. Antholin, London, 22 February 1573/4, Rose Bull, daughter of John and Joan (Rawlins) Bull. She was buried at St. Mary Aldermanbury on 19 October 1591. He married second, Anne (Timberman) Kinge, place and date unknown. She was buried at St. Michael Paternoster Royal, London, 27 November 1601. He married third, Margaret (—), place, date, and surname unknown.
The first mention of Nicholas Hill appears in the records of the Drapers' Company where he was admitted to the Freedom of the Company on 22 April 1573 after serving as apprentice to Thomas Pullison.
Nic: Narbon, Ulster King of Arms, granted arms (argent, a fess between six martlets, gules) to "Nicholas Hill of London marchant son of James Hill mayor of Guilford in Com: Surry" in 1584.
Nicholas Hill was involved as a merchant and accountant for factors (mercantile agents or commission merchants) who dealt in apparel for troops in Ireland, and perhaps the grant of arms by Nicholas Narbon was no more than a seal used by Nicholas Hill in his profession.
In his will dated 8 April 1610, he asks to be buried in the "parish church of St. Michaell Paternoster in the Royall" in London. He gives bequests to:
my welbeloved wife Margarett £150 for her third part
