Nicolaas "Nico" Hendrik Johannes Adriaan Nel (1969 - 2006)

Brief overview:

Nico (37), a contractor for the mines, was driving back from Orkney to Klerksdorp when he was shot and stabbed on Wednesday 20th December 2006.

The Wolmaransstad police called his brother, Andries, the following morning to tell him that they had found his brother's pick-up truck and that they had arrested five youths, after someone had reported six youths in a vehicle that was being driven recklessly. They found a knife and a 7.65mm firearm in their possession.

The police were able to track down Andries as Nico's mobile phone was found in his pick-up truck.

According to police spokesperson, Supt. Louis Jacobs, Jaco had presumably stopped next to the road when he was overpowered by the six youths, aged between 16 and 19 years-old, after which they stole his truck.

The police were still looking for the sixth perpetrator.
