Nikolai Olsson Uranes

• 1864 døpt Nicolai 6. nov. Faddere: Lars Nicolaisen Vinje, Sivert (Andreassen?) Langlo, Knud Olsen Langlo, Ragnhild Rasmusdatter El..(?), Elen Pettersdatter Lien and Mari Halvorsdatter Dybdal. Nikolai was born on November 6th 1864 as the youngest child of Ole and Nikoline. • 1880 Fadder 17. May 1880 - witness to the christening of his niece Hanna Olsdatter Uren. At this time he is 15 years old.
• No further documents or information about him after 1880. Nikolai went to California where his brother Nils lived. The photo attached to this profile page is of a Nicolay Olsen, taken in Santa Barbara around 1900, and is most probably of this Nicolay. Family lore says he sailed out for Australia, some think he drowned. In the proklama for his father's death he is mentioned as last known in Australia.
• NB: Feil i bygdebok for Stranda: Nikolai er ført som "Nikoline". For some reason the Stranda bygdebok (both the 1964 and 1996 editions) list the youngest child born in 1964 as a girl, Nikoline, but the original documents, both his baptism, the 1865 census and his confirmation in 1879, clearly show that he is a boy. The "Nikoline" listed in the bygdebok is said to have emigrated to America.
