Nile Maurice White

Obituary: Nile Maurice "Smokey" White, 77, of El Dorado, AR, died on Saturday, February 5, 2011, at University of Arkansas Medical Sciences in Little Rock, AR, following a brief illness. Born on March 7, 1933, in Strong, AR, he was the only child of Carah Lee "Dick" and Sadie Vestal White. Smokey was an Army Veteran, who was stationed at Kaiser Slatern and Maenheim, Germany, during the early 50's. Upon returning home, he worked at Colonial Bakery, and sold insurance for American Family and Life and Casualty of Tennessee. He retired from Schuler Drilling Co., as a tool pusher; in retirement he worked part-time at El Dorado Glass. Smokey was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors are his wife of 53 years, Virgie Hendrix White; sons Nile M. (Cindy) White, and Grady R. (Kathy) White, and a daughter Tina R. White, all of El Dorado. Also surviving are grandchildren Corey White, Lauran (Nick) Sappenfield, Wendy White and Shane White; and great-grandchildren Adyson White, Gavin Prothro, and Sienna Sappenfield, along with numerous cousins. Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Tuesday, February 8, 2011, at Murmil Baptist Church, with Rev. Billy Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Strong Cemetery.
