"as for the residents
of Tyumen, the presence of uninvited European guests burdened them
extremely. In a petition filed in the name of Peter I, they reported that the
"Swedish Polonians" sent from Tobolsk and placed in their homes lived
"innocently." “They oppress us in every possible way, your servants and
wives, and dishonor our children ... with all sorts of bad words and
fornication theft,” the people of Tyumen complained to the tsar. They were
especially worried that, when leaving for work, they were forced to leave
their wives and children in their homes along with the Swedes. The
Tyumen people were ready to build barracks for the Swedish captives with
their own money in order to get rid of "their Swedish oppression and
dishonor""
