Nina Bell Royer, 80, of Rt. 3, Harrisonburg died early Tuesday morning at Rockingham Memorial Hospital, where she had been a patient for five days. She had been ill the past year.
Mrs. Royer was born April 19, 1906, in Rockingham County and was a daughter of the late Leanord Mitchell and Amanda Scretha Shifflett Shifflett.
Mrs. Royer had done domestic work for 45 years for former Harrisonburg mayor Frank Switzer, John Paul and Jane Moffett. She was a member of the Church of Christ and the Broadway Senior Citizens Group.
On July 12, 1930, she married Raynor Carnel Royer, who died Sept. 29, 1972.
Surviving are two sons, Melvin Lee Shifflett of Nome, Alaska, and Charles H. Royer of Amherst; five daughters, Helen "Susie" Whitesel and Lonnie Armentrout, both of Rt. 2, Harrisonburg, Edith M. Deeds of Hinton, Ruth Pittington of Keezletown and Nannie Blakley of Harrisonburg; a brother, James Shifflett of Harrisonburg; 14 grandchildren including Roy Lee Royer of Lacey Spring, whom she had reared and with whom she had lived since 1984; and 11 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday at the Kyger & Trobaugh Funeral Home by the Rev. Dan Turner. Burial will be in Eastlawn Memorial Gardens near Harrisonburg.
The family will receive friends 7-8 p.m. today at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family said that donations be made to the Hospice, Rockingham Memorial Hospital, 235 Cantrell Ave., Harrisonburg.
