Nivek Frederick Louis Dodunski

Convicted murderer Raymond Owen Meynell was sentenced in the High Court at Hamilton for assaulting a toddler whom he later murdered. Meynell, 26, was given an additional four years in jail to be served concurrently with his life sentence for murdering Nivek Dodunski. A jury found him guilty of murdering 17-month-old Nivek at Huntly on February 9 last year. He had hit Nivek so hard it split the toddler's liver in two. Source: 4theKids

A Huntly man convicted of murdering a 17-month-old baby who called him dad has been denied parole, for the fifth time. Raymond Owen Meynell is now aged 40 and serving a life sentence for the murder of Nivek Dodunski, the child of his then-partner Georgina, in 1998. Meynell was sentenced in 1999 and a month later convicted and sentenced on three separate charges of assaulting Miss Dodunski and another of assaulting Nivek for which he received a four year jail term. Nivek died after a blow to the abdomen with such force from Meynell that it split his liver in two. During the two cases it was revealed how abuse was dished out to Nivek regularly, with "an atmosphere of violence" described in the house before his death. The parole board's report revealed that Meynell still denied killing Nivek but was 'accepting more of a role in the child's death than he accepted before'.
