Born in Lincoln County where he resided as a farmer prior to enlisting in Lincoln County at age 18, March 25, 1862. Hospitalized at Charlottesville, Virginia, October 18, 1863, with a gunshot wound. Place and date wounded not reported (probably wounded at Bristoe Station, Virginia, October 14, 1863). Furloughed for thirty days on November 17, 1863. Returned to duty in January-February, 1864. Captured at Burgess' Mill, Virginia, October 27, 1864. Confined at Point Lookout, Maryland, October 31. 1864. Paroled at Point Lookout on March 28, 1865. Received at Boulware's Wharf, James River, Virginia, March 30, 1865, for exchange.
