About Noel Bernard
1940 - arrived to then Palestine with his Jewish father and German Protestant mother.
Began his studies in Mathematics at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. Here, he met his first wife Yvette Bourla, whom he married in Tel Aviv on Dec. 23, 1945.
End of Dec. 1945 - beg. of Jan. 1946, emigrated to London, UK, with his wife Yva. Began working as a journalist for BBC.
Son Dan was born in May 1946 and daughter Barbara in July 1952 in London. He changed his name from Bercovici to Bernard some time after his son's birth, before his daughter's.
Noel Bernard began working as the Director of the Romanian Department of Radio Free Europe in 1953, but departed for Rome in 1958 with his first wife and two children. He and his family returned to England, where he ran the London office of Radio Press International (RPI), a radio news service that ultimately was bought out by UPI. In 1961, he returned to Munich to serve once again as the Director of RFE's Romanian-language Department until his death in 1981.
