Norbert W. Christel, 73, of 552 S. Liberty St., Valders, died Thursday at St. Joseph Hospital, Marshfield. Funeral services will be at 9:15 a.m. Tuesday at Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, and 10 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, Clarks Mills. The Rev. Leander F. Nickel will officiate with burial in the church cemetery. Mr. Christel was born Feb. 24, 1902, at Valders, son of the late William F. and Wilhelmina Lulloff Christel. He married Esther M. Mallmann Sept. 24, 1924, at Clarks Mills. She preceded him in death April 7, 1972. Mr. Christel was president of William F. Christel Co. and Valders State Bank of Valders. He spent his life in the garage and implement business at Valders and was active in the management of the Valders Canning Co. with plants at Valders, Hilbert and St. Nazianz. He was a member of Valders Lions Club and St. Mary Holy Name Society of Clarks Mills. Survivors include five sons, a daughter, four brothers, Isadore, of Kiel, William, of Minneapolis, Minn., Louis of Wisconsin Rapids and Arthur, of Manitowoc; two sisters, Mrs. Louise Kletzien and Mrs. Edgar (Alice) Ryan, of Manitowoc and 22 grandchildren.
