Norma Virginia Pratt

Virginia of Hillsville and formerly of Roanoke, joined her heavenly Father on April 22, 2012. She was born on May 2, 1919 and was the last surviving child of Margaret and George Robert Buckland. She was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Russell Norman Pratt. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Hillsville and a former member of First Christian Church and Raleigh Court United Methodist Church of Roanoke.

Her children survive her: John Pratt of Morristown, Tenn., Patricia and spouse Larry Fannon of Charlotte C.H., VA and Judyth and spouse John Sankey of Radford, VA.

Her grandchildren are Brian (Leslie) Pratt of Morristown, Tenn., Cheryl Ferguson of Corryton, Tenn., Darin (Christina) Pratt of Morristown, Tenn., Cindy (Kay) Vance of Lyndhurst, VA, Laurie (Dan) Michaelson of Charlotte C.H., VA, Mark (Leanne) Mayberry of Roanoke, Jennifer (Kirk) Averett of Christiansburg, VA, Scott (Holli) Mayberry of Blacksburg, VA., and Jonathan Mayberry of Christiansburg, VA.,

Her great grandchildren are Cyara and Brianna Pratt, Abigail and Nathan Michaelson, Ellie, Fannon and Lauren Vance, Katelee, Grace, Sheri, Spencer, Elijah and Maxwell Averett, Ashlee and Amber Ferguson, and Thane Mayberry, two step- great granddaughters are Kayla Bailey and Megan Shultz. She also leaves nieces and nephews- Bobby (Jean) Pratt of Lynchburg, Shirley (John) Lamanca of Salem, Donald (Pat) Muse of Bedford, Meredith (Glen) von dem Busche of California, Alex ( Bonnie )Buckland of Tennessee, Bill ( Carol) Buckland of Kansas, Tom (Judy) Wood of Washington.

She leaves her 1st cousin Guy (Doris) Ritter of Salem, VA.

She also leaves her devoted family at Wheatland Hills Retirement Center of Hillsville and her church family and friends.

She is preceded in death by parents plus her brother George Buckland, sisters Louise Burdette, Roberta Jordan, Dorothy Wood, Winifred Bowers, Phyllis Buckland and Sarah Buckland and, also, by a granddaughter Sharon Mayberry, nephews Bill and Robert Bowers and daughter-in-law Carole Pratt.

She graduated from Jefferson High School and attended Roanoke College, retired from Roanoke City School Food Services, was an active member of the United Methodist Women, the Glory Singers of First United Methodist Church of Hillsville and was an enthusiastic volunteer with Operation Christmas Child.

She will be long remembered for her love of God, family, people, her sewing and needleworks.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at First United Methodist Church of Hillsville at 11:00 AM with Pastor Ty Harrison officiating. Burial will be held on Wednesday at 2:30 PM at Evergreen Burial Park in Roanoke. The family will receive friends at the church on Wednesday beginning at 9:00 AM lasting until service time at 11:00. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
