About Norman (Jumbo) Biggs
Norman (Jumbo) Biggs was a giant of a man, very intelligent and extremely strong. He stood about 6'2, 240 lbs of broad-shouldered solid muscle. He was an automobile and diesel mechanic, electronic technician, worked on early tube-type television sets, very mathematically knowledgeable, a single-engine airplane pilot of 1940s "taildraggers", who loved to fly. The story says that he tried to enlist 18 different times to get into the army during WW II, but failed the physical over minor disqualifications. He was very honest, quiet, hard-working, but fierce and fearless in protecting his family. He did without, so his family might have advantages. His feats of strength were legendary. He could pick up 55 gallon drums of oil and load them with ease. He once moved a heavy object that three men together had been unable to budge. His word was his bond. He was very bright and logical. As a young man, he was once attacked by three individuals, who were all soon lying on the ground. People respected him and feared him. He believed in doing what is right. He was a great father and husband. He would help anyone in need. He loved to travel and had the itching foot of the Biggs lineage...
