OBITUARY

Obadiah Small Pickett was born in Spiceland, Indiana on July 18, 1835 being one of a family of thirteen children of whom only two remain. He departed this life Nov. 16, 1919 at the age of 84 years 28 days.

He moved to Henry County, Iowa in 1856 where he lived until 1869 when he came to Washington County, Kansas and homesteaded, in 1881 he moved to Jasper County, Missouri, for a few years. He lived again in Washington Co., until October 1893 when he came here to his farm in Rawlins Co., where he has resided almost continuously ever since.

He was united in marriage on the 3rd of January, 1863 to Emily J. Roberts. To this union were born three sons and three daughters, Henrietta, Charles W., David R., Mary M., Martha A., and William James. His wife preceded him to the spirit world on Dec. 2nd, 1902. Two daughters and one son have also gone before. Since the departure of his helpmet (sic) he has made his home with his son Charles.

He was raised in the Quaker faith and trained up in that strict religious belief. He was a kind father and a good friend and neighbor. He was a sturdy pioneer doing his part in helping settle three different frontier states.

He has enjoyed comparatively good health for a man of his age untill the last four years. During that time he has been almost an invalid. His more recent illness which ended in death has been only for the last few weeks. He is survived by one brother, James Milton of Alton, Kan., one sister Mrs. John Ferguson, two sons Charles W. and William James and sixteen grandchildren, all of this community.

The funeral was held at the McDonald Federated Church Tuesday afternoon. Rev. David V. Richardson officiating. Burial at McDonald cemetery.
