Fue Director en la casa comerciale, William Gibbs & Company, en Lima, Arequipa (Perú) y Valparaíso (Chile). La Casa Gibbs se inició en Exeter en 1778. A sus inicios tuvo fracasos comerciales, por lo cual, Antony Gibbs, su fundador se trasladó a Madrid, donde reinició actividades cemerciales muy especialmente con las indias /América), principalmente en Perú, Chile y Brasil. En 1806 envía las primeras consignaciones al Perú. En 1808 regresa a Londres, y se establece como la Casa Antony Gibbs & Sons, después de la invasión napoleónica a la peninsula ibérica, sin embargo 11 de sus más grandes clientes residen en Lima. En 1822 se establece en Lima la Casa Gibbs, Crawley, Moens y Cía, y se establecen sucursales en Arequipa y Guayaquil. En 1825, el señor Moens recibe instrucciones para abrir una sucursal en Valparaíso, Chile. La Casa Gibbs, indudablemente tuvo una actuación importante en muchos acontecimientos comerciales y de inversión y que su rol fue tan importante, en muchos acontecimoentos que ya son parte de la historia de la jóvenes repúblicas que nacieron en el siglo XIX. Hablar de su extensa y exitosa trayectoria, ocuparía mucho tiempo y especio y será motivo de futuros estudios. Octavius Charles, se inscribió en el Marlborough College, en Agosto de 1862. Permaneció en el colegio desde sus 15 años y lo dejó en las naviades de 1864 asus 17 años. Dejó establecida como dirección, Flawley Abbey, Newnham, Gloucestershire.
