About (Olevine) Matilda Monsen

The sad story of Mathlda is that she was put in an asylum sometime before 1910 when Christian reports himself as a widower in the census. One has to wonder if it was the death of her 9 month old baby in June of 1905 that put her over the edge (his death certificate showed encephalitis so perhaps he was ill from the time he was born), perhaps she already had post partum depression

The marriage record from the Lutherin church shows her father's name as Osuld Anderson. from that we have surmised that she is the Matida in the 1892 NY state census for Brooklyn where he is called Oswell, wife Ann, sons Anthony and Magnus. These match the names and ages of the children of Osuld and Ann in Fjaere, Aust-Agder baptisms and censuses so the assumption is that this is her family.
