About Olive Tenney

Olive was born to Ezra Strong, Jr. and Olive Lowell in Wales, Genessee County, New York. In 1821, after Olive was born, that area was taken from Genesee County to form Erie County, where the town of Wales is today. Olive married Nathan Cram Tenney March 18, 1841, in Bremen, Jo Davies County, Illinois. They had ten children together; only four of whom lived past childhood.

When Olive and Nathan lived in San Bernardino, California, (from 1851 to January, 1858), Olive taught school.

Obituary: Deseret News February 23, 1881 - At St. John, Apache County, Arizona, January 20th, 1881, at 6 o'clock a.m., of pneumonia, Olive Strong, beloved wife of Nathan C. Tenney. She leaves a husband and four children and seventeen grandchildren, all of whom were residing here. Brother Tenney has been on a mission to the Western States for nearly two years, but has been released to return home, and she was very anxious to live untill he arrived.

She embraced the Gospel in her youth and removed to Utah in 1848, and was one of the pioneers of Dixey. She removed to Arizona in 1877. She was a member of the Relief Society and taught a Spanish class in the Sabbath School. She always attended Sabbath meeting regularly. She bore a faithful testimony to her children of the divinity of the Gospel the evening before she died. She was born in Wales, Genesee County, New York, February 18, 1819.
