New Jersey's Oliver Cromwell, who crossed the Delaware with George Washington and lived to nearly 100, will at long last receive a historical marker.
There is a family pic in the artical of his descendents: The many descendants of one wing of Oliver Cromwell's family, descended through his great-great-granddaughter Iola Jones Todd. They are still in the Burlington area.

Though a decorated soldier, Cromwell lies in an unmarked grave in Burlington at the Broad Street Methodist Cemetery. For centuries, official commemorations of his service were denied.
But at long last on April 27, Cromwell will receive his due with a ceremony and historical marker from the Daughters of the American Revolution, an organization long charged with honoring Revolutionary War heroes.
"Original Home of Revolutionary War Soldier, Private Oliver Cromwell," the plaque will read at Cromwell's former home at 114 E. Union St. in Burlington, enumerating the many battles in which he took part. "Discharge papers signed by George Washington."
Against this backdrop, Cromwell was born on the farm of tavernkeeper John Hutchin on May 24, 1753, in present-day Burlington County, an area whose taverns “Burlington Biographies” author Richard L. Thompson described as a hotbed for American revolutionary sentiment.
Cromwell’s parentage is not known with certainty, but multiple records refer to him as being of mixed race, likely African and white heritage. Late in life, he referred to himself as being “in the family of John Hutchin.”

Oliver Cromwell Contributed by Douglas Aumack
Edited by Larry Kidder
Served at the battles of Short Hills, Monmouth, Brandywine, Springfield, and Yorktown
I was born in the village of Black Horse, Burlington County and was raised as a farmer. My ancestry was mixed and some records list me as mulatto while others have me as Indian. I may have been a mix of European, African, and Indian.
I was 67 years old and as a common laborer I was unable to earn a livelihood due to my age. My 25 year old daughter Elizabeth, who lived with me, was crippled and unable to assist me with income. I also had two young sons, Isaac and Robert aged 12 and 10, who were too young to earn income. Fortunately, I was awarded a pension of $96 a month.
In 1850, I told the census taker that I was 97 years old and was living with my daughter Elizabeth and my grandson son James and his family.
