About Oliver Livzey Hampton
Oliver L. Hamprton was born in Belmont Co., Ohio, 2 March 1831. Moved with the family to Iowa in 1854. Taught school, walking about 8 miles to and from school. On 22 April 1857 he married Hannah Gregg, daughter of Caleb and Milicent Gregg, she had been one of his pupils in the Friends school held in the Gregg home. He had learned the carpenters trade in Ohio, and followed it besides teaching and farming in Iowa. He loved fruit culture, and set out many fruit trees. He was an active member of Friends, holding several important offices. Not much interested in politics. His sister says of him, "He was a good, quiet, pleasant, Christian man." His education consisted of one term at Mr. Pleasant Boarding School, besides the grade schools. Oliver died 9 January 1899. Hannah died 10 November 1924.
