Lucinda moved with her parents to Linn Co., Iowa in 1854, from Ohio. Lucinda was brought up according to the principles of Friends and was active in the activites of the Meeting. Because of her husband's duties in the Indian Territory, she was left with the care of the family and work on an 80 acre farm. He spent about three years roaming about with the Indians, living in tents, eating food they ate, trying to teach them the ways of civilization and restrain them from making raids on the whites who lived on the borders of their country. Because of his health he returned to his family in 1974. He wrote a book "A Quaker Among the Indians" published in 1875. Taken from "The Hampton Genealogy to 1963" Compiled by Gertrude E. Ellyson
