[...] . - [A] budapesti egyetemen végezte tanulmányait és a jogi doktorátus és ügyvédi diploma elnyerése után gyakorló úgyvéd, a Pesti Magyar Kereskedelmi Bank jogtanácsosa, majd ügyvezető igazgatója s érdemeiért kormányfőtanácsos lett. Az összeomlás után közreműködött különböző amerikai kölcsönműveleteknél és a magyar valuta stabilizációjának pénzűgyi munkálatainál."

His father was once for ever amongst the best qualified amateur chess players of the country (Hungary) and was the honorary president of the Hungarian Chess Circle (died in 1913).

His grandfather Aron Jacobi, was a community scribe and served in the Hungarian army through the entire1848 Revolution as a captain in the cavalry. For this, the Austro-Hungarian empire (the Hapsburgs) sentenced him to death in absentia (the sentence was never actually carried out.) J. Oliver was educated at the University of Budapest; after having received a Doctor of Juris degree and the diploma as an attorney, he started his practical career. Later he became the legal advisor/consultant to the Hungarian Commerce Bank at Pest, then the chief executive officer (director) of this bank; for his merrits he became the chief-advisor of the government. After the recession, he was involved in setting up several loans from the USA and in the financial side of the work in stabilizing the Hungarian currency ***)."
