He departed for Port Royal ( Nova Scotia ) in 1643 and in 1663 he was engaged to Marie Gaudet, the daughter of Denis Gaudet and Martine Gauthier. Records show they married around 1666.

The census carried out in Port Royal say that the father Olivier was a labourer. According to the census he was said to have had "two parcels of land, six pair of black sheep and a beast of burden".

.0 Page 1 - "The name d'Aigle, which translates "of the eagle," was anglicized to Daigle sometime after the 1820s. The first d'Aigle to come to North America was Jean, who came to Quebec, Canada about 1674 from France.

Records indicate that Jean D'Aigle was first a farmer, then a soldier. In 1682 he embarked on a military expedition against the English in Hudson Bay area and returned to Quebec in October, 1683, on the ship, Batchelor's Delight." he married Marie Anne Proteau and settled in the Quebec area." [4]

9.0 Page 67 - "According to a thesis written by R. P. Archange, May 1959, in Memories de la Societe Genealogique, Vol. 4, the D'Aigle family remained in Austria, but Jean D'Aigle migrated to Canada, where he became known as L'Allemand (the German). The first mention of him in Canada was in the recorded purchase ,m on April 2, 1674, of the land of Pierre Ledoux, in Bourg-Royal (Charlesbourg), at the price of 80 livres. The land consisted of 40 arpents, on which he built a small house, thirty feet long and twelve feet wide, at the end of which was a "cheminee de terre", and near which was a shed 'clos de pierx et covert de paille".

Not being successful in the cultivation of his land, Jean sought his fortune elsewhere. In 1682, he embarked on an adventure against the British in Hudson Bay, under the command of Chouart and Radisson. The account relates: 'The expedition was so filled with perils, ferocious defense by the British, ambushes from the savages, the fury of the wind and snow and sleet, that Jean D'Aigle, inhabitant of Bourg-royal, about to make a long voyage to the North in which great risks and dangers were to be encountered, desired to make his will. Having no parents in this country, he wished to dispose of his possessions, which God had given him. He recommended his soul to God, to the Virgin, to St. Jean, his patron saint. He wished his debts paid and 100 sols given to the poor of his parish. The balance of this possessions he wished to be divided equally between the 'Reverends Peres Recollets de Quebec'; on one part and his three godchildren on the other'

After his perilous adventure in Hudson Bay, where they overcame the British at several forts, he returned to Quebec on the 'Batchelor's Delight', on October 20, 1683. He wished to establish a home, so he married a co-parishioner, Marie Anne Perroteau, the daughter of Etienne Perroteau and Marguerite Seguin Perroteau (her parents were married in 1664 and were both from St. Barthemis of Rouen, Normandy, France). The marriage contract was signed November 4, 1685 at Vachon. Representing the bride were Germain Langlois and his wife, Jeanne Chalifour Langlois, grandparents of Perrine Langlois Fortier, our ancesstress.

Jean D'Aigle, sometimes called jean L'Allemand because he was of Austrian origin, did not succeed in making a living from the soil, so he chose to go to sea. His activities were chiefly devoted to the transportation of logs from the forest regions to the small communities on the coast. It is thus that he earned a meager living. His home was still the small hut which he had first purchased, with no flooring, and little furniture.. "[9]

Olivier Daigre, born in France in c1643, reached Acadia by c1666, the year he married Marie, daughter of Denis Gaudet and Martine Gauthier. Between 1667 and 1681, Olivier and Marie had 10 children, seven sons and three daughters. Olivier died at Port-Royal before c1686, in his early 40s, and Marie remarried to a Fardel or Fredelle. Two of Olivier's daughters married into the Sibilau, Gouzil, Poitevin dit Parisien, and Tennier or Thénière families. One of them, Marie, had "natural" daughters with Gabriel Moulaison dit Recontre and Louis Blin. Olivier's youngest daughter and her family perished aboard the British transport Violet in a North Atlantic storm during the deportation of the island Acadians to France in late 1758. Only two of Olivier's sons created families of their own, at Port-Royal, Minas, and in the French Maritimes.

Georges Daigle-192 [uncertain] and Marie Chauvin-119 [uncertain] were removed as his parents. Parents are unknown as there is no genealogical evidence. Some trees theorize that Acadian pioneer Olivier was thebrother of Quebec Pioneer Jean Daigle dit l'Allemand, whose parents were George Daigle and Marie Chauvin (Source PRDH PRDH/Famille/5582). The French Heritage project at Family Tree DNA has now confirmed that Olivier and Jean have different yDNA and therefore had different biological fathers. Olivier's yDNA signature was confirmed by testing two documented descendants of his sons (Bernard and Olivier). See details at: http://www.francogene.com/triangulation/TRI0047.php . The yDNA signature of Quebec pioneer Jean Daigle dit l'Allemand has also been confirmed by testing two documented descendants of his sons (Andre and Etienne). See details here: http://www.francogene.com/triangulation/TRI0049.php.
Olivier's origins in France are debated. Theories range from Aigre, Poitou, and Alsace Lorraine. Massignon states that the spelling of D'Aigre, frequent in the old parish registers of Saintonge, suggests that one of Olivier's ancestors in times past once came from the city of Daigre (Charente).≤ref>Massignon, Geneviève.
