Orlando Westover Royce

Orland Westover Royce was the son of Miles Royce and Sarah Gilman. He was a veteran of the Civil War and was a resident of Plainfield, Will County, Illinois when he enlisted as a Private on 19 Apr 1861. He mustered in Co K 10th Illinois Infantry on 29 Apr 1861. Orland received a disability discharge on 5 May 1861.

Esther Miller and Orland Royce were married on 5 Oct 1865 in Kane County, Illinois. Daughter Allie Mary and son Philander C were born in Illinois. In 1873, the family moved to Sarpy County, Nebraska, where Orland began a hardware business. Daughter Jessie Yates and son Orland Westover Jr were born in Sarpy County, Nebraska. Orland was a member of the Masonic order, and held the office of treasurer of Papillion Lodge for nearly twenty years. He was also a member of Dahlgren Post No. 55 G.A.R.

Orland died at his home in Papillion at the age of 52 years 7 months. He had been sick for several months, and shortly before his death was confined to his bed. Cause of death was "neuralgia of the heart"

After the death of Orland, Esther and children relocated to Omaha, Nebraska where Esther died in 1921 at age 82 years. Daughter Allie Mary married George C Smith Feb 1889 in Sarpy County and died in 1949. Philander died in 1915; in 1900 he was a patient at the Asylum for the Chronic Insane in Adams County, Nebraska. Jessie lived with her mother for many years (until her mother's death) and died in 1958. Orland Westover Jr married (Mary M), lived in Omaha, and died in 1929.
