I have been researching the Mack family for over 30 years and have been stumped by the numerous Orlando Macks living in New York the first half of the 1800s... until recently!A few months ago I literally closed myself into my den for a weekend with all my Mack papers and sorted the mess out.Biggest lesson learned: do NOT trust printed genealogies, DAR applications or Ancestry trees!!!

Rev. Orlando Mack was born in Hebron, CT in 1773 and died in Cato, Cayuga Co., NY in 1820. He was the son of Orlando Mack and Mehitable Chapman. He did not marry Lucy Baldwin and his mother was not Lucy Baldwin.

If you search online you will find dozens of people claiming Orlando was born 1747, married first to Mehitable Chapman and second to Lucy Baldwin.This is absolutely false.The primary sources are very clear: the Orlando Mack born in 1724 in Hebron married first to Abigail Andrus/Andrews and second to Mehitable Chapman.His will of 1803 in Harpersfield, NY mentions his widow Mehitable and in the will of his son Joel (by his first wife) Joel mentions his step-mother Mehitable.

The Orlando born in 1747 died in 1762 in Hebron.
