Orlando Allen Crandell

Ora A. Crandell, a pioneer resident of Nuckolls County and about 75 years old, committed suicide on his farm northwest of Oak, Saturday. His son Albert and family had been to town and on their return found Mr. Crandell had strangled himself to death by hanging. The sheriff was notified and it was decided that no inquest was necessary, as the facts were very evident of what had happened. Funeral services were arranged for this afternoon at the Angus church, with interment in Edgar Cemetery.

Orlando A. Crandell was born in Wisconsin April 5, 1861; died at his home near Oak, Nebraska, December 29, 1934, at the age of 73 years, 8 months and 24 days. He was the youngest of the family of John W. and Rhoda I.I. Crandell. Nine brothers and four sisters preceded him in death. He obeyed the Gospel near the age of 17. He came to Nuckolls County in 1872, settling near Ox Bow; after a few years he moved to the place where he passed away, living there for over 25 years. He was united in marriage to Viola Campbell. To this union were born twelve children. His wife, three sons and two daughters preceded him to the Great Beyond. He leaves to mourn his death four sons: Frank of Ogalalla, Joe of Bushnell, Albert of Oak, and Harley of Redmont, Oregon; three daughters: May, Merle and Marie all of Hastings. Besides these children he leaves 22 grand children and two great grand children and a large number of relatives and a host of friends. Funeral services were held at the Church of Christ in Angus. The music was furnished by a male quartet composed of Neil, Will, Henry and Clark Peters. Brother H.G. Darling had charge of the ceremony.

Mr. Crandell was seventy three years, eight months and twenty four days old. He was born in Richland County, Wisconsin on April 5, 1861.

His wife died 5 years ago. He leaves to mourn his loss four sons, Frank of Ogallala, Joe of Bushnell, Nebr., Albert of Oak, Harley of Red Mont, Oregon and three daughters, Mrs. Mae Genen, Mrs. Merle Hill and Mrs. Marie Prawl all of Hastings, besides many other relatives and friends.

Mr. Crandell was a member of the Modern Woodmen of America.

The funeral was held at one-thirty at the Christian Church at Angus and burial was made in the cemetery at Edgar.
