About Orlene S. Labrum

Orlene S. Ross Labrum Whyte passed away on Monday, June 12, 2017 of causes incident to age. She had a wonderful 90 ½ years.

She was born on January 6, 1927 to Marion and Gladys Ross of Roosevelt, UT. She married Norman Ray Labrum on April 4, 1945 at the age of 18. Their marriage was later sealed in the Logan LDS Temple.

They moved from Roosevelt to Tremonton, UT with their four children to start Norm’s Tire Service. She worked alongside dad to make their shop one of the best ever. They loved their many friends from Tremonton. They later had Pam while living there.

They also had a men’s clothing store called “The Back Yard.” In October of 1970, Norm passed away at the young age of 43 after suffering for years from Lou Gehrig’s disease. She stood by him and took gentle care of him for many years. We are so grateful for her example to us.

On January 18, 1975, mom married Sandy’s home teacher, Robert W. Whyte from Longmont, Colorado. They lived in Longmont until Bob retired. Then they moved to South Ogden, UT to be closer to family. They were married for 35 wonderful years until Bob died February 16, 2010.

Mom was blessed with two wonderful husbands. Due to illness, she moved into Fairfield Village of Layton where she passed away.

Mom was an elegant lady. She owned a children’s clothing shop in Tremonton called “Pamakims” with Babe Hunsaker. She went to work dressed beautifully and in high heels, which she loved. Mom was always dressed to the hilt, and was loved and admired by many.

She was a member of the LDS church and held many callings including Relief Society president and counselor, Primary president, and Young Women’s president. She also held callings in the stake and was an excellent teacher. Mom loved the Lord with all her heart and taught her children to as well. Her love for beautiful things and flowers was passed down to her children.

She is survived by her children Susanne Quinney (Pete), Sandy McFarland (Blair), Sherry Anderson (Neil), Barry Labrum (Lynda), Pam Anderson (Russ) and Patti Benson (Alan) who is Bob’s daughter and is loved by all of us. Bob also had a son, Bobby, who died at the age of 8 due to Cystic Fibrosis. Also surviving are numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren who loved her dearly.

Her siblings include Loryn Ross (Barbra) both deceased, Shirley Ernest (Bob-also deceased), Leon Ross (Janet), Larry Ross (Connie) and Lanny Ross (Kathy). Her little brother, Alan Dale, died when he was 2 from drowning.

We would like to thank all those who took care of mom at Fairfield Assisted Living (formerly Legacy), especially Holly who loved mom dearly. Thank you also to the team of hospice workers, what a wonderful gift they have been in this time of need. We would like to express a heartfelt thank you to our sister Pam, who took such great care of mom.

Funeral services will be held Monday, June 19, 2017 at 2 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road. Friends may visit family Monday from 12:30 1:30 p.m. at the mortuary.

Interment, Tremonton, Utah.
