Son of Colonel George Augustus Armes and Lucy Hamilton Kerr.

Husband of Dorothea Barnett Drew of Iowa. They married on 12/31/1906 in Davenport, Scott County, Iowa. The bride was the daughter of John Drew and Sarah Chambers Barnett.

During the War with Spain, he enlisted on 5/17/1898 in Company "H", 1st Regiment, of the District of Columbia Infantry. He was discharged on 11/20/1898.

The 1899 Washington, D.C. directory shows Oscar is living there in the Tennallytown district, as were his sisters Lucy and Ethel.

The 1900 US Census shows he was single and living as a "boarder" in the home of a Mollie Able in St. Louis, Missouri.

The 1905 New York Census shows he is a "lodger" in the home of a May Hollie in Manhatten.

The 1930 US Census Shows Oscar is still living in Manhattan with Dorothea and their daughter Sarah.

The 1940 US Census shows he is still married to Dorothea (recorded as Dorothy B. Armes), working as a newspaper reporter and has a 29 year old daughter named Sarah B. Armes living with them who by profession is an actress. The family resided at 145 East 52nd St, New York, New York.

His WWII Draft Registration card shows he and Dorothea were living in New York City at 145 East 53rd Street. He was employed at the New York Journal American, a newspaper published from 1937 to 1966. Oscar was described as having hazel colored eyes and gray hair with a ruddy complexion. He stood 5'10 1/2" and weighed 144 pounds. The 1940 US Census verifies this information and further shows his daughter Sarah, now age 29, is still living at home with her parents.
