Biography

Oscar Loewi was born in Bavaria (Germany) in about 1830.[1] He was married to Rebekka (Rebecca) Frank: according to the 1970 U.S. Census, she was 11 years his junior.[2][3]

He emigrated to the United States, settling first in New York and later in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he and his family were recorded in the 1870 U.S. Census. He was a button manufacturer. [3]

Children of Oscar Loewi and Rebecca (Frank) Loewi included:[3]

Nanette (listed in the 1870 Census as Nannetta), born in New York, 9 years old in 1870.

Fanny, born in New York, 7 years old in 1870

Rose, born in New York, 3 years old in 1870.

He was naturalized as a United States citizen on 29 September 1875 in the Court of Common Pleas of the City and County of New York.[4]

He died in Philadelphia from a self-inflicted gunshot on 1 November 1875. He was 45 years old, married, and a resident of 1452 N. 11th Street in Philadelphia.[1]
